Schrijvers die zelf het experiment niet schuwen spreken en discussiëren over inter- en multimedialiteit in de literatuur. Wat betekent het mengen van tekst met andere media voor de ontwikkeling van de hedendaagse literatuur? In hoeverre kun je spreken van een nieuwe kunstvorm, en welke ontwikkelingen vinden zij het meest interessant?

The past three times at de balie made me hungry and eager. Hungry for words. Words that make sentences accumulating to connected moments that tell a story.
A long time ago was a passionate reader of books. I still read a lot but they are articles on the net on all different subjects and interests, that’s collecting information and creating your own Here and Now story. A book is genuine magic. Giving you this entrance into a world that’s not your own but at the same time you are part of it, surrounded by it, it’s the only one that exists. But my tendency to make stuff as well limits my time to indulge. Life is about choices.
For me this day was the day of language and in what degree you master it or made it your own. Emine Sevgi Özdamar and Irene Dische didn’t write in there native language. They found this quite positive, not having the emotional baggage on the words used. Giving them freedom to use them more objectively. This hold true for the content as well, writing about a country that the didn’t grew up in.
This part was in German, for me this is easy I could almost say it’s my second language, my kids have german grandparents even the german nationality. It’s not a language I master in writing because I had never had to. I just speak and fully understand it.
The second part was about how Melania Mazzucco and Hélèna Villovitch (writers / hybrid artists) use the different media available. How this feeds the different ways of expression / telling a story. I had the impression the artist themselves didn’t think about that a lot it just follows a logical path and it never is an issue what it should be, it just is. It’s the recipient who wants to define and maybe that’s necessary, I don’t know.
This second part was french and that is a language I don’t understand or speak. It was being translated in Dutch, but I came late and couldn’t take one of the headphones that gave the Dutch translation. I really had to make an effort to follow the story. Actually I made up my own helped by the context and the body-language. Knowing I could see the rerun of this and that then hear the Dutch translation. To my surprise my story wasn’t that far of. Off-course I didn’t feel nuances or understood jokes but I got the overall point they were making. I wander how. Communication is much more than the language alone. I noticed I wasn’t trying to translate I was just following the story.
I love languages they all have their own culture, feel, nuance that makes me curious and eager to learn. It’s like all beautiful things you would love to embrace it and be part of it. But life is short… and there are so many good choices around.
