Het Zina Platform (ZinaPlatform.eu) zal in een viering nieuwe huwelijks- en familieregels voorstellen door het sluiten van een huwelijk tussen Nazmiye Oral en Sinan Cihangir. Een huwelijk waarin een man en een vrouw vanuit de Islamitische tradities in waardige gelijkheid zullen trouwen.

Dit programma is in de zaal alleen bij te wonen op uitnodiging. De ceremonie was ook online te volgen via De Balie live-streams. Later zal deze ook on demand te bekijken zijn: de link.

Moeders, dochters, broers en zussen van het bruidspaar zullen aanwezig zijn. Bruid en bruidegom geven hun ja woord niet aan een religieuze macht, er zijn imams aanwezig, noch aan een wereldlijke macht. Zij trouwen vanuit de Islamitische tradities en geven daar hun eigen Zina interpretatie aan. Getuige van dit huwelijk zijn de heer Job Cohen, burgemeester van Amsterdam, mevrouw Hidayet Tuksal, feministe en als theologe verbonden aan de universiteit van Ankara, familie, vrienden en verdere genodigden.

De genodigden zijn: nieuwe Nederlanders opgegroeid met moslimachtergrond of nog steeds moslim belijdend, vrouwen die buurthuizen in Amsterdam bewonen en leiden, gezagsdragers, kunstenaars, vertegenwoordigers van religieuze, culturele organisaties.

Deze besloten bijeenkomst begint om 14.00 uur voor de ingang van De Balie en gaat binnen door tot de laatste gast vertrekt. Het bruidspaar zal in speciaal ontworpen kleding van AZIZ en gedragen op bruidsschotels het gebouw binnen worden gebracht. Ook heeft de designer Aziz, de foyer en de zaal van de Balie omgetoverd in Zina sfeer.

Zina is ontstaan vanuit een intense behoefte om de segregatie in onze maatschappij tegen te gaan en de wil om de dialoog te bekrachtigen tussen de Arabisch/Turkse cultuur en het Westen.

Zina, met de Balie te Amsterdam als uitvalsbasis, ontwikkelt kunst en culturele activiteiten die tezamen een multidisciplinaire programmareeks vormen. Een podium dat kunst en performances inzet om met elkaar in dialoog te gaan. Een podium waar de met elkaar gedeelde ervaringen de basis vormen voor een dialoog tussen de beeldschone verschillen tussen mensen, de erkenning van ieders traditie en achtergrond en de herkenning van de verschillende culturen in jezelf.

My story.
I was asked by Maurice to be the “human” cameraman for the live stream from debalie.nl. I do this about ones a week. But this time was more than special. We were going to cover an wedding, an Islamic wedding with new marriage and family rules. A marriage in which the man and woman will marry (within the Islamic tradition) as equals.
I saw the rehearsals on Friday and Saturday morning. I worked together with another (professional) camera-crew that were filming to for a documentary. One director and two camera- and one sound-person. There was tape in my cam too this time and they will hopefully use some shots I made for the docu.

There was this great atmosphere building and when the music started everybody was ecstatic. Then the bride and groom where being carried in on silver platters and I could help myself but cry tears of joy (cold-blooded atheist that I am).
At this great day everything came together and something enormously beautiful happened.

Boy’s Night!: Presentaties van het werk van de drie mannen die in 2005 een opdracht ontvingen. Eerst een introductie met de schrijver geintervieuwd door Frits Visser daarna wordt een deel van het stuk opgevoerd.

Like yesterday this was great food for the (my) mind. These kinds of secondary labour agreements (I’m the camera person) make me want to come back often.
Herman was a piece about a day in the creation of Herman. In the beginning there was The Word. And The Word was “Herman”. Herman is his own universe not able to escape or even reflect on others. He can only reflect on himself. This leads to surreal thoughts that make you laugh about it’s absurdity but it reflects our own search towards self.
Sinterklaasavond is a cliché. The director and the writer love playing with cliché settings and the stereotypes within.
The setting a typical traditional family night (the the father of Santa). The stereotypes within: father mother sun and adopted sun. The parents are both almost 60, father has a midlife crisis and mother is desperate looking for love. Arnold is an art student and is 40 somewhat, doesn’t like the world and his parents even less. And then the adopted sun from Sierra Leone, not a boy but a man who want to become a lawyer an tells this every time he opens his moth. Their dialogue is witty, sharp and personal but at the same time the interaction is a cliché. You know what’s coming but not quite.
In Vaderliefde 2005 (fatherly love) the writer is writing letters to his unborn, telling him about the world and about himself. Vulnerable and sincere telling about the beauty of life and the absurdity of it. Being a dad myself this was one big string of recognition bathing in this lukewarm sirup like substance, I had the feeling that people without children found it more challenging.
His fear has come true. He is a dad and he talks like one. Transformation complete.

To conclude: I came to Amsterdam in 1998 (the city of plenty!). But sucking up the culture and especially theater I never made it a routine. To obsessed with the battle between, eating, sleeping, making, working, leaning, gathering, loving, mindless fun, etc. etc. But I should, it has a lot to offer. The will to communicate, to tell the story, is the tendency I feel when I make my “stuff”.
