Like the architect intended

This is my first Lumiere. Somewhat after the hype but the moment didn’t present itself any sooner.
I’ve seen about 30 or so Lumieres and I got the feeling that people take the best minute (or less) out of many.
So I intended to make a statement and be even more true to the Lumiere and would really show the moment I hit the record button to the moment it reached the one minute. Film was expensive those days.
But like anyone else I would record more and make a directors cut and let people decide which one would be the best, expecting that would be the directors cut. But when I looked at the footage I had to conclude the first minute is it. So I’m happy to be true to Lumiere and at the same time deliver the dc.

Rules of Lumiere:
* 60 seconds max.
* Fixed camera
* No audio
* No zoom
* No edit
* No effects

In the last days of December I went to The Hague to visited some people and tying lose ends.
This video is one of them. It was shot in April 2006.

New Year Dive 2007

Every year some seals are found on the beach of Ameland by my father and others. Some are dead others just sick. Those sick ones go to a seal shelter called Pietersburen. Every few months they recovered seals back to there natural habitat. This time it was on the first day of the new year 2007.

When we visit Ameland we are always take a ride on the beach. My father looks after seals that are stranded on Ameland because of illness or old age. Today my father was called in because of a dead seal. Half way he was called about a young life one on the far east side of the island. Found by people who were doing a sightseeing tour. The contrast couldn’t be greater.

Still think I should have answered my son when he asked repeatedly “Is he dead dad?” I didn’t want to break the spell the moment by talking.

memory lane

I went To Zwolle again after ten years of absence (I was living there with my former girlfriend for one year). My brother is living just 50 meters away from my former “home”. I went to have a look at it with my two kids (who I couldn’t even have imagined at that moment). Giving me quite a strange feeling.

Visiting the parents of my girlfriend in Germany. The boys haven’t seen this much snow in their lifetime. So he is counting them together with his uncle Uwe.
