This is my first Lumiere. Somewhat after the hype but the moment didn’t present itself any sooner.
I’ve seen about 30 or so Lumieres and I got the feeling that people take the best minute (or less) out of many.
So I intended to make a statement and be even more true to the Lumiere and would really show the moment I hit the record button to the moment it reached the one minute. Film was expensive those days.
But like anyone else I would record more and make a directors cut and let people decide which one would be the best, expecting that would be the directors cut. But when I looked at the footage I had to conclude the first minute is it. So I’m happy to be true to Lumiere and at the same time deliver the dc.

Rules of Lumiere:
* 60 seconds max.
* Fixed camera
* No audio
* No zoom
* No edit
* No effects

Frank and I

Have had this piece of film on my computer for some time now. Couldn’t resist.
I know Frank from way back on the AKI, the Enschede Academy of Visual Arts (1991-1997). In the second year he got caught by the super8 bug and it never left him again. Today he has his own company developing and digitizing super 8 / 16 and all kinds of special celluloid for clients all over Europe. On my two super 8 film I wanted digitized there was some seconds left and he couldn’t resist, and I thank him for that. Love this spontaneous action in his kitchen to get enough light. Where, on a rare occasion, I’m in front of the eye… nostalgia…

He had no lessons in what he’s doing at the age of 4. He just does it by good observation and common sense. I’m proud. (made with my nokia phone, so bad quality)

beautiful pollution

This is the place where all the waste of Amsterdam is being burned in the most efficient way possible (they say) to create biomass energy. It’s a very prominent part of the Amsterdam skyline.

Sometimes pollution can be beautiful.

(update: come to think of it this is the first lumiere video I made, before I even new there was such a word ;)

Lovers Lane

Went to Spanderswoud this Sunday and we came across this old lane which was cut off at both ends in the middle of the forest. The children and mostly I was fantasizing about the castle that was there a long time ago and how a prince was riding his horse across this endless lane.

Almost all trees had old love declarations on them worn by the weather and the growing of those trees. So I named it Lovers Lane, walking and thinking of all the positive and historical moments they witnessed.

The 2e Oosterparkstraat is a shopping street, hearing children playing is a surprise, and everybody going by has to look.
And there is: the gate to paradise where you least expect it.
